"The ending of Slumdog Millionaire is powerful; for the narrative, the characters and the audience."

Personally, I do believe that the ending of Slumdog Millionaire is very powerful. I think it strikes something in the narrative, like how Jamal has gone through so much and so much has changed in his life, other than his love for Latika. I find the ending to be very emotive as we finally get to see the characters we've been invested in throughout the movie brought together at last, even if it's just for a short while as we can't tell what will happen next. This nicely brings me on to the enigma code theory. Enigma codes are almost what drive the narrative forward in a way. Enigma codes are used to make the audience wonder. They tend to trigger questions, many of which are answered by the end of the movie. Slumdog Millionaire triggered many questions for me as I found myself wondering who people were, what their intentions were, what they did, what they're doing and what they're going to do etc. I found that most of the questions which came from the story were answered by the ending, however, some remained unanswered. The ending also triggered a few new questions, the main one being, what happens next? Now going further into narratives, I found that Todorov's narrative theory was concluded with the new equilibrium of Jamal and Latika finally being together after such a long time. The theory cannot be applied to the movie as a whole, instead it has to be applied to each of the separate storylines which come together to make the final story, luckily, each of these storylines meet the same ending. The binary opposite theory, however, was concluded based on what happened to each opposition. For example, good and evil. Jamal, the good, ended the movie by getting what he had been fighting for the entire way through, and Javed, the evil, lost one of his most loyal employees alongside Latika, who he had complete ownership over beforehand. I think that at the end of the movie the positive oppositions were the ones which had the best outcome which made the ending seem to be more enjoyable and helped bring more focus upon the new equilibrium.
